Analyst Claims Tesla and SpaceX May Merge by 2027
After SpaceX goes public, the market is keenly watching whether Musk will push for a merger between SpaceX and Tesla. Tesla is set to release its earnings report after the U.S. stock market closes on Wednesday and hold an investor conference call, where Musk may provide more clues about the future relationship between the two companies. Morgan Stanley analyst Rajat Gupta stated that a merger could unify the vision, engineering management, and AI operations of both companies. Currently, the two companies have established a joint venture, Terafab, in March this year to build a chip factory in Austin, Texas. Technology analyst Dan Ives predicts that the likelihood of Tesla merging with SpaceX in 2027 is over 80%. If the two companies merge, the overall valuation could reach approximately $3 trillion, comparable to Microsoft, and the merger could enhance Musk's control over Tesla. Currently, Musk holds over 80% of the voting rights in SpaceX, while his stake in Tesla is about 20%. However, the potential deal still faces regulatory hurdles. Gupta pointed out that Tesla has large factories in China and derives a significant portion of its sales and profits from there, while SpaceX has close ties with the U.S. government. Additionally, both companies' valuations are highly dependent on market confidence in Musk, and the risks associated with the merger could become more concentrated.
