DTEK Naftogaz Implements VerticalScout, Increasing Drilling Speed by 20%

DTEK Naftogaz utilized the mechanical managed rotary system VerticalScout for drilling a complex well in Poltava, which allowed for a 20% increase in mechanical drilling speed. The system was employed while drilling a vertical section of the borehole with a diameter of 8½" at depths ranging from 4050 to 4892 meters in challenging geological conditions with a layer dip angle of 10-15°. VerticalScout maintained the specified trajectory without additional speed constraints, which enabled the elimination of several operations typical of traditional methods. During the operations, two tools completed three runs and over 530 hours of circulation, with the equipment being brought to the surface with minimal wear on the stabilizers. This resulted in a reduction of drilling duration by more than five days (about 20% of the expected time) and a potential economic benefit exceeding $100,000. Maxim Dorokhov, head of the Engineering and Technology Center, noted that saving even a few days of rig operation significantly impacts project efficiency. In February, the company signed a partnership agreement with Turbo Drill Industries, becoming the only authorized provider of Vertical Scout technology in Ukraine.
