Multiplex Estimates War Damage at $20 Million, Three Theaters Lost
The Multiplex cinema chain has suffered over $20 million in damages due to destruction caused by Russian aggression. Nine theaters in the chain were damaged, three of which have been lost permanently. The theaters in Mariupol, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih have been completely lost. In Zaporizhzhia, the cinema was destroyed after three Russian missiles hit the shopping and entertainment center. The cinema in Kryvyi Rih was not affected by combat actions but was closed due to safety risks, and the company decided to abandon the project due to the inability to reach an agreement with the landlord. Romanchuk noted that under curfew conditions, the cinema loses about 23% of its operational time, making it economically unfeasible to operate. The cinema in Kherson is also not operating but is not considered permanently lost, as the premises were only slightly damaged. Of the nine damaged theaters, six have already been restored, including locations in Kyiv and Odesa. Despite the losses, the chain continues to expand, having opened a new cinema in Uzhhorod. The chain currently has 27 theaters and 171 screening rooms, expecting a revenue growth of 15% by 2026.
